Broadway star Denee Benton labeled Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as the "Grand Wizard" of the Ku Klux Klan on Sunday at the Tony Awards.

Benton, best known for her role as Natasha Rostova in Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812, presented the Tony for Excellence in Theatre Education Award from Carnegie Mellon University, according to a report.

CONGRESS CAN DO MORE TO PREVENT MEGAFIRES

"Earlier tonight, CMU and the Tony Awards presented the 2023 Excellence in Theatre Education Award. And while I am certain that the current Grand Wizard — I'm sorry, excuse me, governor — of my home state of Florida," Benton, 31, said.

"I am sure that he will be changing the name of this following town, immediately. We were honored to present this award to the truly incredible and life-changing Jason Zembuch Young, enhancing the lives of students at South Plantation High School in Plantation, Florida," she said.

The term "Grand Wizard" refers to the title that is given to the leader of the Ku Klux Klan.

DeSantis has not commented on Benton's remarks, which were apparently made in reference to the 2024 presidential hopeful's push to destroy wokeness in Florida, including his passage of the Parental Rights in Education Act and a battle with Disney.
