As he campaigns for a second term, President Joe Biden is working as hard as he can to shed his “Scranton Joe” persona and embrace the elite classes that bankroll his candidacy by adopting policies that punish the working class.
On Monday, Biden announced that his administration is implementing yet another plan to cancel federally held student loans for millions of borrowers. The new plan is far-reaching and cancels interest accrual for some borrowers while completely canceling the debt of borrowers who are eligible for loan forgiveness programs but have not enrolled in them.
The effort is Biden’s latest attempt to buy votes from the upper-middle-class demographic that took out student loans as he desperately tries to cling to the presidency for another term. It’s a disgraceful election-year pander that blatantly transfers wealth from the lower economic classes to the college-educated class. But it also highlights the president and the Democratic Party’s embrace of those same upper elite classes while disregarding the working-class demographic groups that formed the backbone of the winning electoral coalitions of Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
Since taking office, the Biden administration has waged a sustained war against the working-class people of the United States while hiding behind photo-ops that give the impression that he is preserving the interests of that same working class.
Whether it is the student loan cancellation plan, a regulatory scheme aimed at forcing consumers to buy expensive electric vehicles that they cannot afford, or refusing to secure the southern border and stem the tide of illegal immigrants that allows corporations to undercut the wages of U.S. citizens, Biden is putting the desires of the wealthy elite over the needs of the working class.
In effect, Biden has turned the 2024 election into a class struggle. While he champions policies that benefit the upper and elite classes, his opponent, former President Donald Trump, is promising policies that will lead to a widespread trade war to restore U.S. manufacturing while curtailing immigration and securing the border. He would also eschew a massive wealth transfer to the upper class through student loan forgiveness and enact a regulatory policy that does not force people to buy products they otherwise would not buy.

The Biden administration has spent the length of its term punishing lower-class voters who never went to college but work hard day in and day out to earn a living in order to reward the upper-class, college-educated demographics that Biden fears will not turn out to vote for him again.
For a man who has spent a lifetime in public office cultivating the image of “Scranton Joe,” the champion of the common worker, the president deserves a new nickname: Bourgeoisie Biden.
