Two years after former President Joe Biden’s open border policies pushed the illegal migrant population in America to a new record of 14 million, officials today revealed that President Donald Trump just set a new, more positive record.

On July 20, the fewest ever number of illegal immigrants were seized on the southern border.

“The Border Patrol apprehended just 116 illegal aliens — the lowest single-day total in agency history,” according to the House Committee on Homeland Security.

The panel’s new report also showed that the number of illegal immigrants encountered at the Southwest border in July was a record low of 7,382, a drop of nearly 93% from the Biden era. “This is the lowest monthly total in [Customs and Border Protection] history, breaking the previous record set last month,” said the committee’s monthly border briefing.

To help put the Trump border achievements in perspective, the Washington Examiner’s Anna Giaritelli just revealed the Pew Research Center’s report on the illegal immigrant population and highlighted the new record set during Biden’s administration.

The “U.S. unauthorized immigrant population reached a record 14 million in 2023,” said Pew. The number was so large, added Pew, that the illegal immigrant population made up 27% of the overall foreign-born population in America.

The committee said the contrast between Trump and Biden’s policies couldn’t be more stark when releasing its compilation of new border statistics. The July numbers provided the clearest picture of the new border policies.

Key among them was the comparison between Trump’s policy of locking the border down and Biden’s dismantling of the wall.

“For the third month in a row in July, zero inadmissible aliens were released by USBP into American communities, compared to the 12,365 inadmissible aliens that were released under Joe Biden last July,” said the report.

Officials said that the change is likely due to potential border crossers learning that trying to enter the United States is less likely than ever, so they have stopped trying.

A key indicator of that is the massive drop in migrants filtering through the “Darien Gap” of Panama, where caravans of those heading to the U.S. border start. Washington Secrets reported in May that there had been a 99.5% drop in those crossing through.

In a statement accompanying his report, committee Chairman Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) said, “With Southwest border apprehensions at a record low due to the reversal of the Biden-Harris administration’s open-borders policies, the days of human smugglers, gang members, known or suspected terrorists, and drug traffickers taking advantage of our borders and communities are over.”
