Border agents seized more than $3.8 million worth of cocaine after intercepting smugglers coming across the Texas border.

The incident occurred Monday evening in the Rio Grande City area after Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents working with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department identified the delivery of suspected illicit narcotics to a pickup truck near the Rio Grande, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

"As the vehicle traveled away from the river, agents responded to the area, and the suspect driver turned south stopping near the riverbank," the release read.

"The driver exited the vehicle and was observed swimming into Mexico. In the abandoned truck, agents discovered two nylon sacks containing 50 bricks of suspected narcotics."

The total weight of the seized drugs measured 121 pounds, and the street value of the haul was estimated to be over $3.8 million.
