Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) will leave his role as chairman of the House Freedom Caucus this week, the Washington Examiner confirmed.
Good’s exit is prompted by Republican John McGuire’s successful challenge to the Republican nomination for Good’s seat.
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), who is on the House Freedom Caucus board, did not indicate how quickly that would take or who the top names would be, but he said they will “go about picking a member to serve as chairman [on Friday], and then we’ll see how that works.” Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Scott Perry (R-PA) are seen as likely replacements, with Biggs as the more likely of the two, according to Politico.
Norman told the Washington Examiner they aren’t in much of a rush to find a replacement, which is also what he said earlier, noting there’s “a lot of other things on that plate before we go home.”
Good’s tenure as chairman was supposed to last through December 2025. Good said he would help the caucus choose a new chair for the group.
“Upon my recount being completed on August 2, I had told the board that I was submitting my resignation as chair, effective when the board decided to act upon it,” Good told the Hill earlier this month.

During the Republican presidential primary, Good backed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) over former President Donald Trump. McGuire had the backing of the former president in the Virginia primary.
McGuire will face Democratic nominee Gloria Witt in Virginia’s right-leaning 5th Congressional District.
