A group of bipartisan senators are attempting to make records on Unidentified Flying Objects available to the public, as part of a proposed amendment to the Senate's version of the National Defense Authorization Act.
The amendment would direct the National Archives and Records Administration to collect data on UFOs and Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena that would be made publicly available, unless a review board instructs the documents remain classified.
TYRANNY OF THE MAJORITY, OR THE MINORITY OF ONE
“For decades, many Americans have been fascinated by objects mysterious and unexplained and it’s long past time they get some answers,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said in a statement obtained by the Hill. “The American public has a right to learn about technologies of unknown origins, non-human intelligence, and unexplainable phenomena. We are not only working to declassify what the government has previously learned about these phenomena but to create a pipeline for future research to be made public."
The senator added that he was working to further the legacy of former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), who advocated for the Pentagon to release UFO information a decade ago. The legislation is modeled after the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act.
Other sponsors of the proposal include Sens. Mike Rounds (R-SD), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Todd Young (R-IN), and Martin Heinrich (D-NM). Rubio is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“There is a lot we still don’t know about these UAPs, and that is a big problem,” Rubio said. “We’ve taken some important steps over the last few years to increase transparency and reduce stigmas, but more needs to be done. This is yet another step in that direction and one that I hope will spur further cooperation from the executive branch."
The new legislation comes ahead of a UFO hearing of the House Oversight Committee later this month, which will be led by Reps. Tim Burchett (R-TN) and Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).
The hearing and amendment also follow revelations from a whistleblower that the United States government has recovered non-human craft for decades. Air Force veteran David Grusch, who was part of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, alleged that government officials are retrieving extraterrestrial, nonhuman spacecraft.

Grusch said he has not seen the UFOs himself, but that he spoke with former intelligence officials that he has known for decades about the alleged retrieval program.
“They told me, based on their oral testimony, and they provided me documents and other proof, that there was, in fact, a program that the UAP Task Force was not read into,” Grusch told NewsNation last month.
