To risk stating the obvious, the United States’s two leading presidential candidates are very old. This statement, while obvious, became apparent to the largely apathetic voter population following the first l debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
During the debate, Biden frequently appeared incoherent and struggled to articulate his points, seemingly hindered by his jaw hanging open throughout the entire event. Trump, while performing decently, was still far from top caliber.
Since the debate, Biden has done a collection of interviews to demonstrate that night was an aberration. The administration seems willing to prop up Bide in whatever setting they can regardless of the consequences. As a result, sources across the country are still questioning the president’s mental decline.
During the George Stephanopoulos interview Biden was routinely pressed on whether he was senile. While the interview went OK, Biden seemed to come across as both brash and aggressive. He lacked any sort of the charm he used to portray in the media. Stephanopoulos appears to say in audio leaked following the interview, “I don’t think he can serve four more years,” though the audio of the response is a little difficult to hear.
During the NATO summit, Biden spoke and confused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Russian President Vladamir Putin. He also confused Vice President Kamala Harris with Trump. Yet Biden still came across as angry. When it came time for him to answer questions from reporters, he seemed to read from cheat sheets to call on and answer. The White House’s attempt to give Biden a chance to show his abilities under pressure was basically an utter failure.
This appearance with foreign leaders brought reminders to the G7 summit from earlier this month where Biden appeared to wander off from the other leaders as they were preparing to take a photo together. Footage from the event showed Biden moving away to give a thumbs-up to parachutists who’d just landed in the area as part of a ceremony. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had to run after the president to take him by the arm and lead him back into the fold. The gaffes make America look weak on the world stage.

Biden cannot fix this problem since his horrific debate performance. Damage control only works so far. He cannot save this optics situation. It is time to abandon ship for Biden; some things are not worth saving. If anything, he should end his attempt for the presidency to save whatever legacy he believes he has. When people think about the nearly 40-year history of Biden in politics, they won’t remember anything but the senile old man.
His political career is over.
