President Joe Biden reached a blasphemous new low in his crusade for abortion on Tuesday when he made the sign of the cross at a campaign event focused on abortion in Florida.
The nation’s second Catholic president made the gesture as Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for signing legislation that made abortion illegal after six weeks gestation.
“We come back here to the state of Florida, where Ron DeSantis felt like he needed to run for president, so 15 weeks wasn’t good enough,” Fried said. “We had to go to six weeks.”
The president’s gesture is at least the second time he has made the sign of the cross in public as a sort of rebuke. Last year, Biden made the sign of the cross at an event in Illinois after mentioning former President Donald Trump.
But the latest gesture by the president is a blasphemous admission that the fight over abortion is fundamentally a moral and religious one. As Biden surely knows, Catholicism, the religion he publicly professes, condemns abortion as a grave moral evil that takes the life of a unique, living human being. In other words, it is murder.

By making the sign of the cross as a sort of blessing for legal abortion, Biden is modeling an interpretation of Catholicism that rejects its institutional teachings and conforms religion to the moral standards of secular modernity. The goal, simply put, is to force the adoption of a new religion that shrouds abortion in religious language.
Many of Biden’s own supporters and allies have publicly declared that not only is abortion a right but that it is “sacred,” a word that means holy. By making the sign of the cross in support of this moral outrage, Biden is offering a blessing of the profane and mocking the faith that he claims to profess.
