President Joe Biden couldn't resist taking a dig at his predecessor in a Thursday speech.

Speaking on the topic of "Bidenomics" in Philadelphia, the president alluded to former President Donald Trump and his claims about the health effects of green energy projects.

"Notwithstanding what the other guy said, windmills do not cause cancer," Biden said.

Biden often refers to Trump using phrases like "the other guy" or "the former guy" to avoid saying his name directly. But astute listeners got the reference right away.

Trump told Republicans at a dinner in April 2019 that the noise from windmills can cause the disease. Not only do windmills greatly lower nearby property values, Trump said during a speech to the National Republican Congressional Committee, "they say the noise causes cancer.”

Though the remark appeared to be made in jest, Biden has ridiculed it many times since, including at a 2020 presidential debate. Biden said at the time that Trump "thinks wind causes cancer. Windmills."

Trump shot back, "I know more about wind than you do. It's extremely expensive, kills all the birds."

Trump is now polling far ahead of his competitors in the race to become the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, potentially setting up a rematch of the 2020 contest.

But the debate about windmills, cancer, and birds even precedes the Biden/Trump rivalry.

Trump made the original claim while complaining that 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton wanted windmills to be used more widely for power, saying they "were like a graveyard for birds."
