President Joe Biden flicked a bug off of a reporter during a television interview taped in Arizona that aired on Wednesday in which the commander in chief discussed climate change and what the administration is doing to tackle the subject.

Biden was asked by the Weather Channel's Stephanie Abrams if he would declare a national emergency regarding climate change, to which Biden replied, "We've already done that." Abrams asked for confirmation that the national emergency had already been declared, to which Biden started to respond but stopped and said, "You've got a bug on you," brushing off the apparent bug near her shoulder.

"Oh, thanks, appreciate it," Abrams said before pressing Biden to answer the question.

The president finished his earlier statement and said that "practically speaking," his administration has already declared a national emergency. Earlier in the interview, Biden described climate change as "the existential threat to humanity."

President Joe Biden talks with Ed Keable, superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park in Grand Canyon Village, Ariz., Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, as he views the South Rim of the canyon at Yaki Point.

The interview recorded at the Grand Canyon in Arizona was intended to meet "viewers where they are — including those who don't tune into political news on a regular basis," White House communications director Ben LaBolt said. Biden rarely does televised interviews, with the president's last interview in July.

Of the 1,404 adults polled, 59% distrust the Democratic Party on the matter compared to 39% who trust the party, while 74% distrust the Republican Party compared to 24% who trust the GOP on climate change.
