NextImg:Biden should quit while he’s ahead

With looming political and legal walls closing in on him, the luck of President Joe Biden finally seems to be running out.

To say that Biden has had a charmed career in Washington, D.C., politics is an understatement. Over the past half-century, he has been caught plagiarizing, shamelessly inflating his resume, and flip-flopping on abortion, guns, and nearly every other major issue before him. Yet this insecure, thin-skinned blowhard of mediocre intellect was given new life when Barack Obama plucked him from the Senate to ride his coattails all the way to the White House.

WORLD'S TWO MOST IMPORTANT SHIPPING CANALS NOW FACING SERIOUS DELAYS

By lingering in the swamp, Biden has managed to stumble upward to the heights of power. At the same time, despite no discernible business skills or private sector experience, he has managed to amass millions of dollars for himself and his family. And with a media complex akin to a Praetorian Guard, Biden knows he will always be protected from scrutiny while his opponents are mercilessly skewered time and again.

But now that he’s running behind former President Donald Trump in the polls, Biden’s record on inflation, interest rates, crime, and immigration are only the start of his woes. And with the House’s recent vote to move forward with an impeachment inquiry, his family finances will finally be placed under a microscope.

The more congressional Democrats protest, the more obvious it becomes they are very nervous about what this investigation will find. If Biden is exonerated, the Democrats can claim Republicans wasted time and money and should be punished at the ballot box. But if more is uncovered than we already know from Republican findings and IRS whistleblowers, Biden will look even worse in light of how aggressively he has wielded the legal system against Trump.

Then there is the problem of Biden’s wayward son. Not content with the sweetheart deal that special counsel David Weiss handed him on a silver platter, Hunter Biden’s arrogance in demanding even more led to the whole thing falling apart. Then to add fuel to the fire, the younger Biden’s posturing on the steps of the Senate after defying a congressional subpoena essentially forced a hesitant House GOP to finally launch an impeachment inquiry.

And it gets worse. If Hunter Biden continues to defy a House subpoena, he will assuredly be held in contempt of Congress. Having just prosecuted Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro for the same offense, will the Biden Justice Department be so shameless as to give Hunter Biden a pass? It will just be another example of nepotism wherein political power and family ties decide who has the book thrown at them versus who gets to walk away scot-free.

Hunter Biden’s situation will now place Joe Biden in a serious bind. If he torpedoes Weiss’s prosecution or ultimately pardons his son, the whole five-year investigation will be revealed as a sham. People are already wondering why Biden’s own mishandling of classified documents goes unpunished while Trump’s prosecution is being fast-tracked in time for next year’s election. This abuse of the legal system will most certainly backfire. The public is going to notice Trump and other Republicans being raked over the coals while Biden and his family remain untouchable.

The coming year promises to be the most difficult of Biden’s amazingly lucky career. He could quietly retire after this term, pointing to his age and vows from 2020 to serve only four years as a bridge to the next generation. With serious storm clouds on the horizon, a smart man would tap out while he’s ahead. But if history tells us anything, it’s that Biden is not that man.
