Deputy national security adviser Jon Finer said that the United States and Israel are "closer than we have been at any point" to a hostage deal with Hamas.
In an appearance on CNN's State of the Union, Finer gave updates on the War in Gaza and United States efforts to free roughly 240 hostages held by Hamas, including Americans. While declining to comment on whether a deal is about to be made, Finer said that a deal is closer than ever before.

"What I can say about this at this time is that we think that we are closer than we have been perhaps at any point since these negotiations began weeks ago," Finer said, referring to a deal to release the hostages. "That there are areas of difference and disagreement that have been narrowed, if not closed out entirely. But the mantra that nothing is agreed until everything is agreed certainly applies here to such a sensitive negotiation, and there is no deal currently in place."
"We are going to keep at this intensively over the course of the coming hours and days, he pledged. "We believe it is imperative, given how dangerous the situation is in Gaza, to get these people home as soon as we possibly can. But we are not across the line, and we are going to stay on top of it."
Finer declined to comment on the specifics of the negotiations but promised that Biden holds the deal to release the hostages at the utmost priority.
"What I will say is that President Biden feels no higher obligation, no higher priority than the safety and security of all Americans, Americans here in the homeland, Americans overseas, but certainly Americans who are held in such a horrific and dangerous condition as those who are being held hostage in Gaza right now," he said.

On Saturday, the Biden administration denied reports that a deal had been reached with Hamas to release the hostages in exchange for a break in hostilities.
Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the National Security Council, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "We have not reached a deal yet, but we continue to work hard to get to a deal."
