Democratic strategist James Carville pushed back against the possibility of former President Joe Biden having a future in the Democratic Party, saying “the party’s moving on” from him.

A day before leaving the Oval Office, Biden said he was “not going anywhere” while encouraging people to “keep the faith in the better day to come,” hinting at a desire to continue playing a role in the Democratic Party. Carville, however, suggested that Biden needs to permanently retire, saying, “No one wants to hear from this guy anymore.”

“Look, you had a noble career. Your last act was terrible,” Carville said on the Politics War Room podcast. “Just get out of the way. The party’s moving on. I mean, they’re really moving on! And it’s very sad, but that’s just where we are, and he created this himself. Nobody to blame but himself, nobody.”

Carville also said the desire to no longer have Biden involved in the party’s future is not because “we’re bad people” but rather because “it was all his doing.” The strategist also slammed the “petty” claims that Biden could have beaten President Donald Trump, stating, “No one f***ing believes that at all.”

Al Hunt, Carville’s co-host of the podcast, suggested that Biden needs to “go away” and raise money for a presidential library in a state such as Delaware, adding that the former president “really has no role to play” on a national level going forward. Carville then suggested that any role Biden does attempt to play would be “a negative role,” to which Hunt agreed.

While Biden’s political future is currently unknown, Vice President Kamala Harris‘s could see either a gubernatorial run in California’s 2026 election or another presidential run in 2028. Democratic strategist Jim Manley encouraged Harris to first learn from her past political mistakes, including how “poorly” her first presidential bid in 2020 went.
