House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), a member of the committee, wrote a letter to the National Archives and Records Administration requesting unrestricted access to Air Force Two records from when Joe Biden was vice president.

The letter references reporting from Fox News, which showed that Hunter Biden traveled with his father to over 15 countries on Air Force Two. It also testimony before the committee from Hunter Biden’s former business associate Devon Archer, who alleged that they then met with another business associate for coffee in Beijing.

Because of these two instances, Comer and Donalds are requesting “unrestricted special access under the Presidential Records Act (PRA) to certain records related to then-Vice President Biden’s foreign travel with his family on Air Force Two and Marine Two” from the National Archives.

Specifically, the two are requesting all documents and communications from the Executive Office of the President regarding Hunter Biden and his former business associates Archer, Eric Schwerin, or Jeffrey Cooper relating to Air Force Two or Marine Two travel during the eight years the elder Biden was vice president.

They’re also requesting all Air Force Two and Marine Two manifests that include a Biden family member from Jan. 20, 2009, to Jan. 20, 2017, and all documents and communications about any security incidents on Air Force Two or Marine Two during the same time frame.

“Then-Vice President Joe Biden abused Air Force Two by allowing his son to jet set around the world to sell ‘The Brand’ to enrich the Biden family,” Comer said in a statement. “This is yet another example of then-Vice President Biden abusing his public office for his family’s financial gain. There must be accountability for this abuse of taxpayer-funded resources.”

The committee has been investigating President Joe Biden since the beginning of this Congress. While they have proven that Joe Biden’s family members received millions from foreign entities and that Joe Biden, while he was vice president, met in person with several of his son’s business associates and spoke on speaker phone with them at least 20 times over the span of a decade with his associates, there has been no proof that Biden himself profited from these interactions or his families foreign business dealings.

According to Archer’s testimony, the phone calls never included business talk; rather, it was about the weather and niceties. But, it did help Hunter Biden sell “The Biden Brand,” which was that he had access to very powerful people, such as his father.

The evidence also shows that Biden interacted with Hunter Biden’s business associates and that his family received money from Chinese companies, which contradicts Biden’s past statements.

“The walls are closing in on the Biden Family due to consistent and diligent efforts by House Republicans who've followed the money, conducted meticulous interviews and hearings, and uncovered undeniable corruption,” Donalds said in a statement. “I am proud to partner with Chairman Comer on this latest undertaking to expose then Vice President Biden's gross misuse of Air Force Two and Marine Two to benefit his family's enterprise.”

The request comes at a time when the House is contemplating whether to take up an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has said the House could start one as early as September when they get back from August recess. But, he said on Fox Business earlier this month that whether or not they open an impeachment inquiry rests solely on the Biden administration and if they comply with the House’s requests for documents and interviews.

“If they provide us the documents, there wouldn't be a need for an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said on Fox Business on Aug. 22. “But if they withhold the documents and fight like they have now to not provide to the American public what they deserve to know, we will move forward with impeachment inquiry when we come back into session."
