NextImg:Biden inadvertently admits the border crisis starts with him - Washington Examiner

President Joe Biden is inadvertently confessing that he allowed the border crisis to spiral while lying to the public that his hands were tied unless Congress did what he wanted.

That is the admission implicit in Biden’s pending announcement of an executive order to limit the number of asylum claims that can be made each day. That would be a contradiction of the argument Biden had been making for months, which was that only by Congress passing a new law could he have the power to slow the surge in illegal immigration. Biden has portrayed himself as a helpless bystander on the border crisis, but all of a sudden, he has discovered he can intervene through executive orders.

By choosing this path, Biden is showing that he purposefully allowed the border crisis to spiral for 3 1/2 years and exploited the crisis to use public pressure to try and get a weak border bill pushed through Congress. As the crisis has continued and more blame has fallen on him (as it should), all of a sudden, Biden wants to reverse course and announce he actually could have done something this whole time and just decided against it.

Biden’s helpless-bystander routine was an obvious ploy from the start. On his first day in office, Biden suspended deportations and ended the successful “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required illegal immigrants passing through Mexico to wait there while their asylum claims were processed instead of allowing them to enter the United States and releasing them with a court date several years in the future.

It would be impossible to look at the number of border crossings when former President Donald Trump was in office compared to when Biden’s lack of enforcement started and conclude that the surge in illegal immigration was not self-inflicted. Rather than take responsibility and enforce existing border laws, Biden sabotaged the system, smeared Border Patrol agents, and tried to pawn the blame off on congressional Republicans. As Biden is admitting by pushing an executive order now, the scope of the crisis starts with him.
