Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) slammed fellow Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who is challenging President Joe Biden in the Democratic presidential primary, for "resorting to attacking Vice-President [Kamala] Harris."

Phillips, in an interview with the Atlantic, had been critical of Harris, citing her low approval numbers and saying that "many think she’s not well positioned" to succeed Biden. Garcia accused the long-shot Democratic presidential candidate of torching "his entire reputation on the way out" in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday.

"Apparently Dean Phillips is floundering so hard that he’s now resorting to attacking Vice-President Harris. He better keep the VP’s name out of his mouth and apologize," Garcia wrote. "No one will support him so he’s going to torch his entire reputation on the way out. Sad to see."

In the Atlantic story Garcia posted images from, Phillips expressed how it was the public that did not have faith in Harris, while he had only positive experiences with the vice president in his "personal experience."

“I hear from others who know her a lot better than I do that many think she’s not well positioned,” Phillips said. “She is not well prepared, doesn’t have the right disposition and the right competencies to execute that office.”

“It’s pretty clear that she’s not somebody people have faith in,” he said, referring to Harris's poll numbers.

Phillips launched his presidential bid in October after months of saying that a Democrat should challenge Biden for the nomination in 2024.

He has focused much of his criticism and rationale for running on Biden's unpopularity among voters within the Democratic Party and outside of the party, warning it could be a liability for the party next fall. In an interview with CNN earlier this month, Phillips claimed Biden is one of the few Democrats who could lose to former President Donald Trump in a general election in 2024.

“I think in 2020, [Biden] was probably the only Democrat who could have beaten Donald Trump. I think in 2024, he may be among the only ones that will lose to him. And that’s why I’m doing this,” he said.

Phillips is far behind Biden in the Democratic primary polls, but he will be on the primary ballot in New Hampshire, while Biden will not. Allies of the president are seeking to avoid an upset, while following DNC guidelines, by organizing a write-in campaign for Biden in the Granite State for the primary.
