The Biden campaign reiterated the president’s statement that he would debate former President Donald Trump, who is the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party, ahead of the 2024 election.
President Joe Biden stated last month in an interview that he would be “happy to debate” the former president, while Trump has stated online that he is ready to debate Biden “ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.” When asked about how Biden would confront Trump on the campaign trail, the senior spokeswoman for the Biden campaign argued that using Trump’s own words will be a key strategy to debate the former president.
“And look, President Biden has made it very clear he will be debating Donald Trump, but when you have Donald Trump’s own words, it’s also important to keep in mind that we will be continuing to use a paid media strategy here that uses his own words against him,” Adrienne Elrod, the Biden campaign’s senior spokeswoman, said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “There’s no better way to articulate what Donald Trump would do in a second term as president than using his own words. And those words are divisive, they’re dangerous, and they would have devastating consequences on the American people.”
Elrod also discussed the $14 million ad blitz that the Biden campaign is running this month and how it aims to show how Biden is “fighting for Americans” while Trump is “focusing on himself.” The spokeswoman claimed that Trump’s focus is on “revenge” for both his political enemies and, “in many aspects,” people in the United States.
The Biden campaign is also opening up hundreds of campaign offices in battleground states, which Elrod said would make a difference once Election Day arrives. She also criticized Trump for not doing the work to ensure a victory, which she found “not very shocking.”
