President Joe Biden’s campaign is launching a new initiative to court LGBT voters ahead of the 2024 election, whom the campaign manager called “a force to be reckoned with.”

The campaign cited how almost 11,000 LGBTQ volunteers helped Biden win the 2020 presidential election, and that this new initiative seeks to work with these people again in 2024. As such, this “Out for Biden-Harris” initiative will partner with different community messengers, including drag queens and other members of the LGBTQ community.

“LGBTQ+ voters are a force to be reckoned with,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. “They were critical to our victory in 2020, and they will be critical to winning again this November.”

“Out for Biden-Harris” has received the backing of multiple LGBTQ organizations throughout the country, including Equality North Carolina PAC and Fair Wisconsin. The Biden campaign noted that 3.8 million people make up the membership of all of these organizations backing the initiative.

Biden has advocated LGBT rights throughout his presidency, hosting the largest LGBT pride event in the history of the White House last year. First lady Jill Biden has also condemned various moves by schools to limit explicit LGBT books in schools, comparing such actions to the book burnings that took place in Germany during the 1930s.

Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party, is also seeking to win over LGBT voters. His wife, former first lady Melania Trump, will host a fundraising event for the Log Cabin Republicans, a GOP LGBT group, at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on April 20.

While both candidates are seeking to win over LGBT voters, Trump and Biden have different views on the topic of transgender surgeries for children, which has received a growing number of critics in recent years. Biden said in an interview with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney that banning such practices is wrong, while Trump has said he would stop these surgeries if elected president again.

The Washington Examiner has contacted the Biden campaign for comment.
