President Joe Biden's campaign criticized former President Donald Trump on Tuesday for his town hall event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, calling it a "softball" event.

In a statement provided to the Washington Examiner, Biden campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz slammed Trump for sitting for an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, saying the former president opts for "softball town halls" where it is unlikely "he’ll be held accountable for his broken promises and failed policies."

"President Biden has succeeded where the former president couldn't, helping create nearly 800,000 manufacturing jobs that actually exist throughout the country and strengthening our competitive edge around the world," Munoz said.

Trump's interview comes the same day the 2024 GOP front-runner announced he received a target letter from special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into his involvement with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, indicating a third indictment against him is likely.

Munoz also referenced the Republican National Convention scheduled in Wisconsin in 2024, where the party will announce its nominee.

"One year from today, Republicans will be wrapping up their convention in Wisconsin, just miles away from where former President Trump promised his 'America First' agenda would bring 13,000 manufacturing jobs and a new Foxconn plant to the state," Munoz said. "The former president has yet to go back to Wisconsin since announcing his campaign, nor has he provided an explanation for his failure to deliver on his promised American manufacturing boom."

The direct criticism of Trump by Biden's campaign comes a month after Biden ordered the Democratic National Committee to avoid the subject of Trump's indictment for his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
