President Joe Biden targeted former President Donald Trump over his recent claims of credit for ending Roe v. Wade on social media.
On Wednesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he was "able to kill Roe v. Wade," which was overturned last year. The former president said that without him, the "pro Life movement would have just kept losing."
Biden shared Trump's statement on his personal Twitter account and highlighted Trump's statements on ending Roe v. Wade.

"That’s about as clear as it gets," Biden wrote. "Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans are responsible for killing Roe v. Wade. And if you vote for them, they’ll go even further."

During Trump's presidency, he nominated three Supreme Court justices, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. All three of them joined a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court and helped overturn Roe, giving power back to the states regarding decisions on abortion access. The issue of abortion is seen by many to be a major factor going into the 2024 presidential election, which could potentially be a rematch of the 2020 election between Trump and Biden.
Though Trump bragged about ending Roe v. Wade, he has remained hesitant to support a federal abortion ban. The former president recently criticized a six-week abortion ban in the state of Florida, claiming that many anti-abortion activists felt it was too "harsh," but refrained from outright opposing it.

In a recent interview with the Washington Examiner, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) stated that abortion "shaped 2022 races," and she believes it will impact GOP races in 2024 "if Republicans ignore it." Mace added that the Republican Party must "show compassion" if it wants to win over suburban mothers and women going forward.
"It really wasn't that long ago that my ideas were mainstream in the Republican Party," said Mace. "Just two years ago, pro-life groups embraced a bill that was a 20-week bill with exceptions for rape and incest. But since Roe was overturned, they've moved the goalposts."
