President Joe Biden's approval rating on climate change is in the negative despite a constant push by the White House on climate initiatives.
A Washington Post/University of Maryland poll released on Monday shows 57% of adults disapprove of the president's handling of climate change compared to 40% who approve of Biden's handling of the matter.

The negative approval ratings on the issue come despite the White House pushing policies to mitigate and adapt to climate change, especially with investments made in the Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law last year. Biden is set to embark on a trip to several Western states this week, where he is expected to tout several climate initiatives.
The public holds high distrust on the issue of climate change for both political parties, the survey also shows. Of the 1,404 adults polled, 59% distrust the Democratic Party on the issue compared to 39% who trust the party, while 74% distrust the Republican Party compared to 24% who trust the GOP on climate change.
Climate change is regularly touted as a campaign issue by Democratic candidates, but that focus does not appear to be winning over skeptical voters on the matter.
Despite Biden's push for the Inflation Reduction Act, the poll found 71% of those surveyed had not heard of or heard little about the signature piece of climate legislation. The results come nearly a year after it was signed into law and various events touting the initiatives in the law.
The president has not declared an emergency on climate change, despite pressure from liberal advocates, but the White House has frequently touted it as a top priority.
"His plans and his actions have been ambitious to combat the climate crisis," Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, said in a response to a question about Biden potentially declaring a climate emergency.

Biden's overall job performance has been underwater since the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, with the RealClearPolitics polling average showing Biden with a 41.6% approval rating and a 54.2% disapproval rating.
Another issue in focus by the White House, the economy, has not been a winner for Biden either. Polls show citizens are not enthusiastic about the state of the economy despite the push to tout "Bidenomics."
