President Joe Biden is hosting his one-time boss, former President Barack Obama, for lunch at the White House.

White House aides advised reporters of Biden's schedule update on Tuesday after Obama released a statement regarding the Supreme Court's ruling in Moore v. Harper.

"They rejected the fringe independent state legislature theory that threatened to upend our democracy and dismantle our system of checks and balances by giving state legislatures near-total control of federal election laws," Obama said Tuesday.

Obama has granted a series of interviews in recent weeks to underscore the importance of democracy before next year's elections. He also criticized 2024 Republican presidential candidates former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) for not speaking out more about racism.

Biden and Obama talked on the phone earlier this month concerning the debt ceiling standoff between the White House and House Republicans.

"They speak regularly. As we know, there was the debt limit situation that was occurring, and so I think it was important for us to read it out to let them know that President Obama and President Biden spoke," press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at the time.

"I know sometimes people ask when they speak," she added, "and we thought, because of the debt limit, because of the bipartisanship that we saw happening in the last couple of days, it was important to also lay out that President Obama and President Biden spoke."
