Concerns about President Joe Biden’s age are “universal” and the “only nonpartisan issue left in this country,” according to the Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford.
While appearing on America’s Newsroom, Bedford was asked about a recent jab taken by Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) concerning Biden’s age, in which he suggested to voters that it could be wonderful to have a younger president who was not raised on black-and-white television.

“Imagine waking-up January 21, 2025 with a President who grew up listening to U2 and watching MTV on a color television,” Phillips wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The concerns about Joe Biden’s age are universal. It might be the only nonpartisan issue left in this country that everyone left, right, and center agrees upon, which is that Joe Biden’s age makes his ability to do the job of president a really open question,” Bedford said. “And it’s hard to believe with the state of the economy and the border and divisions culturally in this country that Joe Biden’s age remains his biggest vulnerability, but polls show that is what a majority of voters are concerned about is Joe Biden’s physical and cognitive ability to do the job of president.”
“So any competitor who wants to have any hope of questioning Joe Biden’s legitimacy, whether that’s from outside the Democratic Party or a Republican challenger or primary challenger like Dean Phillips, will need to confront Joe Biden’s age,” she continued. “And the White House and Biden’s team, his campaign, have done very little to answer questions that voters have about whether Joe Biden is still capable of being president.”
Biden is the oldest sitting president at 81. Should he win his reelection bid, he would be 86 at the end of his second term.
In a recent Monmouth University poll, 61% of voters said they disapproved of Biden's job performance.

Despite polling indicating concerns over the president’s age, several prominent Democrats are coming to Biden’s defense. Biden climate envoy John Kerry recently told CNN that the topic of Biden’s age “ticks” him off, saying, “I think that’s sort of an ageism. He’s done a brilliant job, I think, as president.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), former President Barack Obama, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have also come to Biden’s defense, speaking out in support of the president through various interviews, social media videos, and the hosting of fundraisers.
