Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) gave a profanity-laced call to action Friday, saying his party is in “a basketball game” and its opponents are “clobbering the s*** out of us.”
Tarrant County District Judge Megan Fahey issued a temporary injunction against O’Rourke’s political group, Powered by People, last Friday. The injunction bars O’Rourke from financially aiding state Democrats who have fled Texas amid its redistricting effort, where another special legislative session is scheduled for this Friday.

O’Rourke, a 2022 Texas gubernatorial candidate, said he feels “for far too long” Democrats have cared more about “being right than being in power.” In comparison, he said that Republican lawmakers care more about remaining in power “than anything else, and it really shows.”
“We’re in a basketball game right now, if you’ll excuse the metaphor, where the refs have left the arena and the other side is just clobbering the s*** out of us,” O’Rourke said at a keynote speech for Netroors Nation. “Punching us in the face, kicking us in the nuts, and we’re kind of throwing our hands up, and we’re asking the crowd, the people of America, ‘Hey, do you see what’s going on here? This is unfair! This isn’t the rules that we agreed to play by.’”
“Well, who cares about the f***ing rules right now? Punch back, kick back, dunk over their heads and win some f***ing power!” O’Rourke said.
O’Rourke also said President Donald Trump’s “authoritarian control” will be “nearly unstoppable” if the Democratic Party does not win the 2026 midterm elections. Should this happen, he predicts Trump’s political opponents will be “targeted for vengeance” and a Republican-controlled House will open the door to “a Trump third term.”
DEMOCRATS AND THEIR DOOMED SEARCH FOR ‘AUTHENTICITY’
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a motion for contempt Tuesday against O’Rourke, accusing him of “blatantly” violating the restraining order that prevented him from financially supporting the “runaway” state Democrats. Paxton also said that “imprisonment is absolutely necessary to persuade” O’Rourke to obey the law.
The Texas Supreme Court requested more information from Paxton and Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) bid to expel several House Democrats from the state legislature on Tuesday. The court said it anticipates final responses to be filed on Sept. 4.
