Gov. Andy Beshear's (D-KY) latest campaign ad attacked Republican candidate Daniel Cameron for opposing rape and incest exceptions to Kentucky's abortion bans seven weeks before the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Beshear released a TV ad Wednesday featuring a young woman who is a survivor of sexual assault, stating she was raped by her stepfather at 12 years old after years of sexual abuse. The woman criticizes Cameron’s abortion stance, claiming he wouldn't give women and girls any options.

“Anyone who believes there should be no exceptions for rape and incest could never understand what it's like to stand in my shoes,” she says, speaking to the camera in the ad. “This is to you, Daniel Cameron, to tell a 12-year-old girl she must have the baby of her stepfather who raped her is unthinkable.”
“I'm speaking out because women and girls need to have options,” she says. “Daniel Cameron would give us none.”
Cameron has said he supports the state’s current near-total “trigger” ban on abortion, and the law makes no exceptions for abortions if a person became pregnant by rape or incest. Abortion has been illegal in Kentucky since Aug. 1, 2022, prohibiting abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy.
However, Cameron has made some recent additions to his stance, clarifying in an interview on Monday with NewsRadio 840 that he would sign a bill that adds those expectations if the Kentucky legislature voted through new legislation. The Republican nominee restated this point in a response to Beshear’s attack ad on Wednesday.

“I have said if the legislature were to bring me a bill with exceptions, I would sign it,” Cameron said.
Cameron and Beshear have been releasing dueling ads in the heated governorship battle, attacking each other over campaign finance issues, local scandals, and the state’s abortion ban.

Cameron, who won the Republican nomination in May, has labeled the Democratic governor’s policy records as too extreme, saying he has been “running the most despicable campaign in Kentucky history” and airing “disgusting, false attacks.”
“He supports abortion through the ninth month,” Cameron said. “His policies are what they have in North Korea and China. He even vetoed a bill requiring medical care for infants born alive after a failed abortion. Andy vetoed every pro-life bill he saw — because Planned Parenthood and Joe Biden said to.”
