Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said that the Democratic Party needs to undergo a “major transformation” if it wants to have a future, citing a need to become a “multi-generational” party.

Sanders’s comment follows growing discontent within the Democratic Party over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) leadership, specifically after he and several other Democrats sided with most Republican senators to pass the continuing resolution. As the Democratic Party continues to find its footing amid the Trump administration, Sanders called on the party to ditch its “consultant-driven party” presentation to voters for a new identity.

The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne tha God suggested the party’s approval rating is low because it has “no leadership” or “messaging.” The radio host added that it is “obvious” the party needs to move on from Schumer’s leadership and that lawmakers failing to say this publicly is only contributing to speculation the party is currently rudderless.
