Platner joined Sanders in Portland, Maine, on Monday for a Fight the Oligarchy rally. Sanders endorsed Platner over the weekend.

“Together with the labor movement of Maine, together with @BernieSanders,” Platner wrote on X. “We will defeat the oligarchy, and we will defeat Susan Collins.”

According to Sanders, roughly 6,500 filled the Cross Insurance Arena.

“In a nation in which we have a handful of billionaires controlling our economy, our media, our government, we are living in an oligarchy, and that is the struggle we have got to take on,” Sanders said at the rally.

“But it is not just Republicans. It is also the fact that billionaires play a much too significant role in the Democratic Party as well,” Sanders said.

Platner is one of six Democratic candidates vying for Collins’s seat. Even though Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) has reached her term limit, she asserted that she is not planning to campaign for the Senate
