Ben Stiller is standing by his 2008 Tropic Thunder film, saying he makes “no apologies” amid resurfacing “woke” criticism.

"I make no apologies for Tropic Thunder. Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it," Stiller tweeted in response to a fan who alleged he was now apologizing for the film.

Critics have attacked Tropic Thunder which depicts a fictional group of actors engaging in jungle warfare and parodies, saying it is insensitive and offensive.

The fan had initially told Stiller that he should stop apologizing and noted that the film is “even funnier now with cancel culture the way it is.”

In the Twitter thread, the fan also shared a 2018 tweet from Stiller that offered support for Olympic athlete Shaun White's choice to dress up as the film’s disabled "Simple Jack" character for Halloween.

"Actually Tropic Thunder was boycotted 10 years ago when it came out, and I apologized then,” Stiller tweeted at the time. “It was always meant to make fun of actors trying to do anything to win awards. I stand by my apology, the movie, Shaun White, And the great people and work of the @SpecialOlympics.”

Actor Robert Downey Jr. has also refused to apologize for the film.

Downey Jr. told podcaster Joe Rogan three years ago that “it was impossible to not have it be an offensive nightmare of a movie.”
