The co-founders of Ben & Jerry’s have debuted a new ice cream flavor in honor of Vice President Kamala Harris in a bid to motivate people to register to vote ahead of the election.

The coconut-flavored ice cream, “Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee,” is a reference to Harris’s famous “fell out of a coconut tree” statement and is being released under the Ben’s Best ice cream brand, which is not affiliated with the Ben & Jerry’s brand. The two co-founders are collaborating with the MoveOn Political Action group, which is beginning a “Scoop the Vote” tour to register voters.

“You can lick and say you care all you want, but if you’re not going for the big scoop, to get registered and vote, at the end of the day, all you’ve got is some drips down your shirt,” Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen said. “Go big. Scoop the vote.”

Jerry Greenfield, the other co-founder of the ice cream brand, said he and Cohen support MoveOn’s work in the political world and offered to make their work “a little sweeter.”

The “Scoop the Vote” tour will make 22 stops, visiting multiple battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Arizona, to register voters. A few other politically themed ice cream flavors will also be featured throughout these stops, such as “Unburdened by What has Vanilla Bean” and “MoveOn Mobilizer Milk Chocolate.”

The two Ben & Jerry’s co-founders are no strangers to the world of politics, as Cohen previously debuted a flavor to support Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) 2016 presidential bid, titled “Bernie’s Yearning.” The flavor was also released under the Ben’s Best name. A second flavor, “Bernie’s Back,” was released in 2019 to support Sanders’s 2020 presidential run.

Last year, the Ben & Jerry’s brand created controversy when it issued a Fourth of July statement calling for people to “recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it.” The statement prompted Coosuck Abenaki Tribal Chief Don Stevens to say he was interested in reclaiming the land in Vermont where the Ben & Jerry’s headquarters is located, though he stated the brand had not been in contact with him at all.
