NextImg:Bella Ciao, the Italian communist song that inspired Charlie Kirk’s assassin

In the investigation of Charlie Kirk‘s tragic assassination, “Bella Ciao” was found engraved on one of three unfired bullet casings.

The exact words, “O bella ciao, bella ciao,” are lyrics from an Italian communist song that many in the media have dismissed as merely being “anti-fascist” or a tune about resistance. This is an oversimplification and an attempt to hide the song’s connection to contemporary radical and violent left-wing political deviance.

“Bella Ciao” has emerged as an anthem linked to groups inspired by communism, neo-Marxist ideals, and with a predilection for violence. The engraving of “Bella Ciao” on an assassin’s bullet casing is just the latest example of the violent future the radical Left is seeking.

‘HEY, FASCIST! CATCH!’ FLYERS POSTED THROUGHOUT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY

Commentators categorizing it merely as a freedom-loving “antifascist” song are either uninformed or being intentionally dishonest. It has as much of a connection to freedom as the “Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart” did. For those who may not know, the “Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart” was the Berlin Wall, the concrete structure that divided East and West Germany during the Cold War, which the Soviet Union communists ordered to be built to prevent East Germans from fleeing to West Germany. By now, it should be well-known that “anti-fascist” is just code for “communist.”

It can be legitimately argued that a more accurate categorization of the song is that it is a left-wing battle cry, sung and used by acolytes across the globe. While virtually unknown to many in the United States until Kirk’s assassination, “Bella Ciao” was sung in Italy earlier in September, as left-wing agitators burned a picture of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

I spoke with Sen. Elena Murelli of the Italian Republic about “Bella Ciao.” Murelli, a member of Italy’s Lega per Salvini Premier political party, explained the song’s true meaning and its link to violent communist and social movements, facts that Democrats, and their accomplices in the U.S. legacy media, have hidden or ignored.

“‘Bella Ciao’ is often portrayed as a song of freedom,” Murelli told me. “But in reality, its political meaning has always been very clear: It is a partisan hymn tied to communist and socialist movements, and over the decades it has been adopted by radical left-wing groups all over the world as their anthem.”

“It is not just a folk song — it is a political symbol, used to divide and to frame anyone who disagrees as an enemy to be fought,” Murelli said.

Murelli also expressed dismay at the revelation that lyrics from the song were engraved on a bullet casing. She said it’s an example of the Left’s desires and how linking the song to anti-fascists fighting for freedom is a manipulation to legitimize left-wing violence.

“To see ‘Bella Ciao’ written on a bullet casing meant to kill Charlie Kirk is a shocking example of this distortion: the song becomes not a chant of protest, but a justification for terrorism,” Murelli said. “It shows that the attacker wanted to claim the authority of ‘resistance,’ as if killing a political opponent could be compared to fighting fascism.”

“This is the most dangerous aspect — when a cultural symbol is manipulated to make violence appear legitimate, hatred is glorified, and democracy is undermined,” Murelli added.

Furthermore, Murelli explained the perils of such actors in answering one of my questions about the dangers associated with such groups. We are familiar with left-wing violence in the U.S. when the media covers it. Other acts of left-wing violence in Italy, or other places around the world, typically aren’t covered in the U.S. However, repeated acts of violence and destruction show that the Left is a global network to be reckoned with, and what we witness in the U.S. is only one piece of its overall objective.

“They are extremely dangerous,” Murelli said. “Even if they are fringe movements, their logic is the same as every form of political extremism: silence those who think differently through fear, intimidation, or even murder. In a democracy, political conflict belongs in institutions, in debate, in elections — not in violence.”

It also shows that, despite many left-wing claims to the contrary, the violence we witness in the U.S. is not intrinsically linked to opposition to President Donald Trump. It’s emblematic of the Left’s international demands and the lengths they will go to implement them. Blaming the violence on Trump is a left-wing distraction meant to deceive and manipulate people from the global reality.

“And we saw a clear example … here in Italy: the so-called ‘strike against the war in Israel’ that was used not as a tool for peace, but as a way to paralyze cities and create chaos,” Murelli said. “In Milan and Rome, train stations and public spaces were attacked and vandalized, leaving citizens hostage to a political message of hatred. This is not democracy; it is blackmail.”

“These groups poison the political climate, radicalize young people, and create fertile ground for more attacks,” Murelli said. “Whether they are left-wing or right-wing, anyone who takes up violence to impose their ideas is an enemy of democracy.”

In the U.S., for over 14 years, radical left-wing groups have rioted, looted, and engaged in other acts of violence in the country. Starting with the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011, followed by Black Lives Matter in 2012, and antifa shortly thereafter, their acts have become increasingly more violent over time. The ultimate objective has been to suppress opposition and dissension through physical intimidation and force compliance in the country’s political spectrum to left-wing principles, many of which are aligned with communist and Marxist orthodoxy. This is why there are many communist flags, symbols, and other imagery present at their riots.

The connection between contemporary left-wing politics, activists, and policy advocacy in the U.S. to traditional communist and Marxist orthodoxy is an ugly truth that liberals, Democrats, and others on the Left regularly deny, hide, and ignore. A spectre of communism has taken form in the U.S., and it threatens many of the country’s liberties, ideals, and institutions. The tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk has put this reality and the acts of radical left-wing political violence under the microscope after years of chaos and destruction in the country.

Murelli tied “Bella Ciao” and the radical Left’s actions to current situations in her country. In her response, you’ll notice similarities between the violent, radical Left’s objectives in Italy and those of the U.S.

“Part of the radical Left is not interested in democratic confrontation, but only in delegitimizing and demonizing the government,” Murelli told me. “When they sing ‘Bella Ciao’ against President Meloni, they are not celebrating culture. They are trying to brand this government as illegitimate, as if it were a dictatorship to be overthrown. This is profoundly false and dangerous. Yesterday, they also burned a picture of Premier Meloni singing “Bella Ciao.”

CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM, CHARLIE KIRK, AND THE USEFUL IDIOTS OF LEFT-WING HATE

It’s one thing to read such words in an article of mine. It’s another thing to read them from President Donald Trump, MAGA supporters, or conservative Republicans in the U.S. It should be a completely different feeling altogether when reading them from a senator of a European country. Murelli’s words are insightful and powerful, conveying a message we should all heed.

“The real objective of these extremists is to create social division, to present themselves as the only ‘true resistance,’ and to justify actions outside democracy,” Murelli said. “It is an attempt to destabilize institutions and prevent Italy from being governed according to the mandate given by the people.”

“That is why we must not underestimate these signals, and why it is essential to respond firmly — by defending democracy, strengthening institutions, and isolating extremism wherever it comes from,” she warned.
