Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass implemented an 8 p.m. curfew for the city’s downtown following days of protests.
“I issued a curfew starting tonight at 8pm for Downtown Los Angeles to stop bad actors who are taking advantage of the President’s chaotic escalation,” Bass posted on X. “If you do not live or work in Downtown L.A., avoid the area.”

Bass said those who break the curfew will be arrested and face prosecution.
The riots, which broke out over the weekend in response to the Trump administration’s immigration raids, have led to vehicles being set on fire, businesses being looted, and law enforcement officers being assaulted.
During a Monday press conference, Bass blamed President Donald Trump’s immigration policies for the city’s civil unrest.
“Our city was peaceful before the raids took place,” Bass said.
Trump and Bass, along with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), have blamed one another for the riots, with tensions between California’s Democratic leadership and the White House peaking when Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard members to Los Angeles, prompting Newsom and state Attorney General Rob Bonta to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration.
LA IMMIGRATION RIOTS: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROTESTS, TRUMP’S RESPONSE, AND MORE
Trump said the deployment of troops was necessary to maintain “law and order” in Los Angeles. On Monday, Trump took to Truth Social to criticize the “horrible job” Bass and Newsom are doing in responding to the riots. Trump deployed roughly 700 Marines and another 2,000 National Guard members that same day.
“Governor Gavin Newscum and ‘Mayor’ Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they have done, and this now includes the ongoing L.A. riots. These are not protesters, they are troublemakers and insurrectionists,” Trump said on Truth Social.
