Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) cautioned Iran against issuing a response strike to Israel’s attack on the country’s military targets, which he argued was “a proportional response.”
Israel’s strike against Iran was in response to Iran firing about 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on Oct. 1. It comes after top secret documents showing Israel’s plans for its retaliatory strike on Iran were leaked earlier this month.
“And I’m not sure who did the leaking, but I think it was actually to undermine Israel, to undermine America’s involvement,” Barrasso said on Fox News’s Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy. “Israel did absolutely everything they should have done with this attack that just occurred. There was a three-level attack. They went first to the missile defense and then to the area where the missiles are being produced and to the — go after the places where the drones are being produced. So after they took down aerial defense, they went after those. I think that was a proportional response. We’ll see what Iran does now. If they’re smart, they would do nothing.”
Barrasso also referenced how the Israel-Iran conflict ties into the 2024 presidential election, suggesting the Democratic Party is “really running scared” due to how some members of Congress are “so pro-Hamas.” He added that he is working to help former President Donald Trump in the election, warning that Vice President Kamala Harris would bring about more “weakness” on the world stage.
The Wyoming senator then made the case for Trump to become president again, stating how the former president “brought Iran to their knees” by targeting the country’s oil. He then argued President Joe Biden has been less strict on Iran’s oil ventures, which has allowed the country to fund terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas.

While the FBI is investigating the leak involving classified U.S. intelligence documents related to Israel, Trump has suggested an “enemy from within” was responsible for the leak. The former president referred to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) as part of this group.
Rep Brian Mast (R-FL), a U.S. military veteran and a former volunteer for the Israel Defense Forces, has argued the United States needs to deal with its “leaky ships,” adding that the leak related to Israel counts as “an act of treason.”
