United States Customs and Border Protection seized more than $1.5 million in cocaine and methamphetamine being trafficked into the United States from Mexico, authorities said.

"These harmful narcotics will not make it to American streets thanks to our CBP officers who used all available tools and resources to stop this smuggling attempt," Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry Director Carlos Rodriguez said.

The Friday seizure of roughly $1,504,000 of alleged liquid methamphetamine and cocaine occurred after officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge came into contact with a black sports utility vehicle coming from Mexico, according to a CBP release.

"A CBP officer referred the vehicle for further inspection which included utilizing non-intrusive inspection equipment and screening by a [canine team]," the release read.

CBP officials from the Office of Field Operations took control of both the vehicle and the narcotics, and the driver was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations.
