NextImg:Ashley Moody says Florida now has resources to secure border

Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) thanked the Trump administration for addressing a need Florida reported to former President Joe Biden, which went unanswered.

Florida has no sanctuary cities but has been an epicenter for illegal immigration due to its location on the Atlantic coast. It felt the brunt of the estimated 10 million illegal immigrants who entered the country during Biden’s administration, as many immigrants flew to the Bahamas and traveled by sea to reach Florida 25 miles away.

“The last president we saw in Florida, we saw Chinese nationals coming across our border illegally go up 8,000%. Think about that number. While Governor DeSantis was asking for more and more help, it wasn’t happening,” Moody said Thursday on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus. “Because of shutting down the southern border, you’re going to see a surge in folks trying to get in other places, specifically Florida as well. I’m so proud of this administration. We were asking for so long coming out of Florida for more assets to address that. They’ve surged Coast Guard assets, and they know that this influx from the Bahamas is going become a reality because of what’s happening.”

Moody predicted that the rest of the country would see similar “results” because President Donald Trump made securing the border a priority. Trump campaigned on the matter for the nearly two years he ran for president, repeating many of his policies from his first term.

Meanwhile, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said he has constituent support for his proposals, which include issuing criminal penalties for illegal entry, establishing an immigration enforcement officer, and mandating compliance with deportations from law enforcement under threat of suspension. However, the Florida legislature has yet to take up any of his suggestions in session.

This is Moody’s first term in Congress since DeSantis appointed her to Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s seat.
