


An Arizona teenager is being credited with defending his home and mother after he shot a man attempting to break in.
The incident occurred on Friday around 10:00 p.m. after the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Juan Saavedra, attempted to force his way into a Phoenix residence he had no affiliation with, according to a report.

He was confronted by the teenager and a woman, identified as the teenager's mother.
The young man came face-to-face with Saaverda after he allegedly broke a window, the report noted.
Police responded to the residence after reports of a fight, and when they arrived, they learned the teenager had shot the suspect.
The teenager informed police that he had acted in self-defense, and witnesses and evidence at the scene appeared consistent with that assertion, police said.

Saavedra suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is facing charges, according to the report.
He is charged with at least one count of criminal trespass and burglary and one count of probation violation, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
