Apple is expected to reveal the latest iteration of its signature iPhone in a major event on Tuesday, alongside changes to other products, including the Apple Watch and AirPods.

Each year, Apple unveils a series of changes to its products that typically results in an increase in the value of the items. However, as high inflation remains a major concern for consumers across the country, increasing the costs of the phones could make the items harder to sell.

Apple will reveal its newest changes to its iPhones during a major event on Sept. 12, 2023.

When is the event

The event will be livestreamed at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday from the Steve Jobs Theater at its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California.

What changes are expected

Although the company has been tight-lipped on confirming specific changes to the new phones, the company is expected to switch its steel casing for titanium, add better cameras, and swap its signature lightning port for a standard USB-C connector, according to Axios.

The move to titanium casing on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is likely to increase the cost of the new phones but would also make them thinner and lighter. Improvements to the camera on iPhones are expected every year.

The biggest change is the switch from a lightning port to the more standardized USB-C charger. Apple has faced mounting criticism for having a different charger than other smartphones and devices, and the move comes less than a year after the European Union mandated that smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, portable speakers, and other small devices must support USB-C charging by 2024.

Apple confirmed it would oblige to the new EU mandate after its passage last year.

How much will the new phones cost

The costs of the new phones are expected to increase by as much as $200. Forbes predicted the standard iPhone 15 will be $799, the iPhone 15 Plus will be $899, the iPhone 15 Pro will be $1,099, an increase of $100 compared to last year, and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be $1,299 this year, an increase of $200 compared to last year.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, however, could be as much as nearly $2,000 if it includes a two-terabyte storage option.

Other Apple products

There could be minor changes to the Apple Watch with the introduction of its series nine. But bigger changes are expected to be unveiled next year with the launch of its Series 10 smartwatch, which will be completely revamped.

For AirPods, Apple is expected to show its new charging case that will work with the USB-C chargers. The company is also expected to unveil the launch dates for its new operating system for all of its devices, dubbed iOS 17. No changes are expected to be announced for the MacBook or iPad on Tuesday because those new devices should be released in October.
