Democrats are celebrating the departure of Tucker Carlson from Fox News, and some are using the news as an opportunity to raise money to combat "hate speech."

Fox News announced on Monday that Carlson and the network agreed to "part ways" but did not specify the reason for his departure. Later that day, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) team released a message to supporters stating that Carlson's dismissal is a "hugely positive development for all of us fighting against hate speech."

The message said that Carlson spent years “viciously targeting women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community."

"There's still a lot of work to do to fight the right-wing disinformation machine that constantly makes Alexandria their target — donate $3 here to help our campaign in that fight today," Ocasio-Cortez's team said.

The campaign asked people to contribute anywhere from $15 to $100 or a custom amount.

"Together we can take this moment and fuel the movement to fight hate speech in America," the New York representative's team said.

Fox News attacked Ocasio-Cortez "75 times a day, on average, in 2019," the message claimed. It added that the attacks had a "serious impact" on her safety and mental health.

"Many people have also come forward over the years to talk about the death threats they received after Carlson targeted them on his show," the message said.

Ocasio-Cortez told MSNBC's Jen Psaki on Sunday that Congress should "explore" holding media companies accountable for the "incitement of violence."

"When it comes to broadcast television, like FOX News, these are subject to federal law and regulation in terms of what's allowed on air and what isn't," the representative said. "And when you look at what Tucker Carlson and some of these other folks on Fox do, it is very, very clearly incitement of violence."

So far, Ocasio-Cortez is the only Democrat to launch a fundraising campaign in light of Carlson's dismissal. The last episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight, which began in 2016, aired on Friday. Carlson will not produce any more content for Fox News.

Carlson left a cryptic ad on his website regarding his next moves despite remaining silent on the matter. The ad prompted people to sign up to "become a tuckercarlson.com insider to find out what Tucker's up to next."
