Anti-capitalist climate protesters in Nevada stopped traffic arriving at the Burning Man event Sunday, leading to a vehicle backlog that stretched for miles.

At least a dozen activists were taken into custody for "trespassing on tribal land" after they locked themselves in a trailer to block attendees to the event, which focuses on community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance, according to a report.

The trailer was adorned with banners that read "Burners of the World, Unite!," "Abolish Capitalism," and "General Strike for Climate."

The goal of the action was to call out "capitalism's inability to address climate's ecological breakdown" and the "popularization of Burning Man among affluent people who do not live the stated values of Burning Man, resulting in the commodification of the event," according to the activists with Seven Circles.

Burning Man intends to be carbon negative by 2030, but that goal is "insufficient to tackle the pressing crisis," Seven Circles argues.

The festival and its apolitical nature is "detrimental to its claimed values, especially as carbon emissions continue to rise despite government and corporate commitments to reduce carbon emissions by more than half by 2030," according to the activists.

Thomas Diocano, co-founder of Rave Revolution, echoed this sentiment.

"We do not have a climate problem, the climate is behaving exactly in line with the laws of physics," he said. "We have an economic system problem, and that economic system is capitalism."

"History shows that capitalism cannot be reformed. It cannot be changed from the 'inside.' Are we really ready to sacrifice everything for an outdated, unequal economic system? The time to evolve has come."

Demands of the festival's leaders included their advocacy for political and economic systemic change, the banning of private jets, single-use plastics, and unnecessary propane, according to the report.

While the activists were passionate about their cause, their blocking of the road was not well-received by those attempting to enter the festival.

"Sorry, you have to move this f***ing mess," one attendee told the protesters, according to the report.

Protesters declared their right to protest in a democracy, and a female activist ended up chaining herself to the trailer the group had used to block the road.

The protest finally came to an end when rangers arrested them for “trespassing on tribal land," the report noted.
