The Washington Examiner’s homeland security reporter, Anna Giaritelli, joined Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle to celebrate President Donald Trump announcing he “was going to do something” about D.C. crime, which she has fallen victim to.

Giaritelli described the random attack against her outside of Union Station in 2020. A homeless man lunged at her, which prompted a struggle between them in broad daylight. During the battle, she was sexually assaulted by the same man. Months after the attack, he was arrested.

“And they went on to arrest him five more times and released him from jail every single time at the order of the judge of the court,” Giaritelli said on Tuesday. “And for me, that was something that put his safety over my safety. They didn’t want to overcrowd jails during COVID.”

“So I chose to leave Washington — my home, where I planned to be for decades —  because I didn’t feel the city was protecting me as a taxpayer and as a resident.”

On Aug. 11, Trump announced he would deploy the National Guard to the capital to assist law enforcement in combating crime. These guardsmen arrived on Tuesday and will remain in D.C. for at least 30 days.

Giaritelli says she was “emotional” watching Trump make the announcement. Trump’s press conference came after the attack on former Department of Government Efficiency staffer Edward Coristine, also known as “Big Balls.”

“As a victim who hasn’t spoke up for five years — I’ve waited for others to speak up — it feels like no one sees you. No one sees all of us hurt and had our lives changed by being attacked on the street in D.C. in broad daylight,” Giaritelli said.

“And President Trump’s message, you know, it made me feel seen for the first time. It made me feel like someone was going to do something about the crime that I had experienced so that other people, regardless of party, regardless of beliefs, no one should be a victim of crime. That’s what the White House was trying to communicate yesterday.”

ICE ARRESTS NEAR 150,000 SINCE JANUARY AS TRUMP OPERATION RAMPS UP FAST

Trump invoked section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to put the Metropolitan Police Department under federal control. Following Trump’s call for the National Guard in D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser held a press conference calling the move “unprecedented.” Staff appeared to be caught off guard as D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith was unable to answer a question about the chain of command.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau made 10 arrests in the nation’s capital as of Tuesday evening.
