Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) claimed that the attempted acquisition of Greenland is another example that “America is great again.”
President Donald Trump is the latest U.S. leader to attempt to add Greenland and its population of over 50,000 people to the United States. Ogles introduced a bill to give Trump the authority to annex the Danish island territory.
“Strategically, when you look at it, it’s wealthy in resources,” Ogles said Tuesday on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiomo. “And when you see increased activity with Russia and China, the Arctic Circle, and the increased activity with the shipping lanes, it’s important for the United States to assert itself and say, ‘Look, this is our doorstep, this is our area of operation.’ And we are, quite frankly, the dominant predator cop, if you will. But it’s important that we fight back against China and send them back to their own hemisphere.”
The minerals found in Greenland are used in the production of electric vehicles, wind turbines, and military equipment. In 2023, the most recent year the data were collected, mineral production in the U.S. alone made $105 billion.
“It’s important for Donald Trump to negotiate from a position of strength, and we started talking about acquiring Greenland,” Ogles said. “He’s broadcasting to the world that we are back. We’re in business. And quite frankly, America is great again.”

Greenland’s geolocation is also a concern for Russian naval activity. The Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom gap could prove to be an obstacle for any possible offenses.
