NextImg:Andy Harris worries GOP is 'weeks behind' on spending bill

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) said he was “disappointed” with the House budget proposal.

This came amid rumblings that Democratic lawmakers are going to hold out on voting in Republican’s favor to fund the government and prompt a government shutdown. Harris is aligned with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in his timeline to fund the government, but he disagreed that it should all be outlined in one big bill.

“I think we can do it, but if we go with one big bill, what we’re doing is seeing roadblocks in the House, that is the problem,” Harris said on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiromo. “I was a little disappointed in the House Budget Committee. If we don’t move on a bill this week, we are weeks behind schedule, and the president needs money for that border security.”

While Johnson said the House GOP was “united” on issuing a budget reconciliation bill as soon as late February, on Sunday, he changed his estimate to March 14, the deadline stemming from the last continuing resolution.

Johnson’s last continuing resolution was supported by all Democratic lawmakers. Still, 34 House Republicans and 11 senators voted against the legislation.

Harris placed Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) as chairman of the House Freedom Caucus committee this session.
