A power outage has caused Amtrak to suspend service in and out of New York’s Penn Station, as well as service between Philadelphia and New Haven, Connecticut, on Thursday.

This includes NJ Transit lines that run through Penn Station.

Approximately 500,000 people and 130-140 Amtrak trains pass through Penn Station daily. The alert came around 3 p.m., right before rush hour, which begins around 4 p.m.

Amtrak reports that a malfunctioning of the circuit breaker is the cause behind the power loss on tracks.

The outage comes as Amtrak warned that the heat wave may cause trains to slow down, causing up to an hour in delays, but it is not clear if the power outage was caused by the heat.
