Alec Baldwin slapped the phone out of the hand of a person confronting him over the Rust shooting, who demanded that the actor say “free Palestine.”

Baldwin was in a coffee shop when the person started recording him using her cellphone, and she asked him to say “free Palestine” one time while asking, “Why did you kill that lady?” The agitator was referring to the on-set shooting that Baldwin was involved in while filming the movie Rust, which resulted in the death of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

“No jail time, Alec,” the agitator said to Baldwin. “You’re putting innocent people in jail, Alec Baldwin. Free Palestine, Alec! Just one time, and I’ll leave you alone. I’ll leave you alone, I swear!”

Baldwin then opened the door to the shop and asked that the agitator leave, waiting about 30 seconds before slapping her phone, ending the video. At least one employee also appeared to confront the agitator, though he walked away shortly after.

The agitator accusing Baldwin of “putting innocent people in jail” is likely a reference to last week’s sentencing, when Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer of Rust, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for Hutchins’s death in October 2021. The judge in the case determined that Gutierrez-Reed, 27, had turned “a safe weapon into a lethal weapon,” with Baldwin holding the weapon when it was fired.

Baldwin’s trial on involuntary manslaughter is scheduled to begin this July, with jury selection taking place on July 9 and the trial expected to be held between July 10-19. If guilty, the actor faces between 18 to 36 months in prison and around $5,000 in fines.

Baldwin has maintained that he did not know the gun he was holding carried live ammunition.
