Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price in California is facing a recall because, like her fellow criminal justice reform-supporting colleagues, she is an anti-police activist using her position to help criminals, not prosecute them.
The recall effort against Price pushed past 80,000 signatures last month, already exceeding the over 73,000 it needs to qualify before the March deadline. Price, for her part, has said the recall organizers are undemocratic and “election deniers” and that recalling her would be just like “the insurrection on Jan. 6.”

In other words, the recall organizers may be the only “criminals” that Price actually dislikes. Her entire tenure has been focused on keeping criminals out of jail, to the point that she hired her boyfriend on a six-figure salary to identify criminals to release early from prison. She boasted about not pursuing prison time for gang members who shot and killed a toddler and has said that letting career criminals back out on the street despite their violent histories “really has no impact on crime.”
In case there is any doubt about who Price is and what she supports, recall that she spoke at a rally organized by the Anti Police-Terror Project in January 2023. That group supports defunding the Oakland Police Department and is now spending its time promoting the genocide of Jews in Israel on social media. Price said during her speech that police “do not own the streets.”

Well of course they don’t. In Oakland, Price has made sure that criminals own those streets. Burglaries and car thefts are at the highest they have been in a decade. Oakland has now had more than 100 homicides in each of the last four years. Even the local and state chapters of the NAACP have condemned Price’s soft-on-crime outlook and called for a state of emergency as crime continues to rise.
Price has made it clear who she is in her rhetoric, painting all her detractors as insurrectionists. She has made it clear who she is in her willingness to associate with antisemitic, anti-police organizations. Most importantly, she has made it clear who she is in her pro-criminal policies. Price is a progressive activist who wants police to be defunded and wants criminals to have free rein no matter their crimes. She belongs nowhere near the district attorney’s office or any other position of power or influence in a society that has any respect for the rule of law.
