The Anti-Defamation League has accused at least 30 “agenda-driven” Wikipedia editors of bringing antisemitic narratives to the website, along with its Arabic-language pages portraying the Hamas terrorist group in a positive light.
The ADL’s report, published Tuesday, states that the 30 editors in question were far more active than other Wikipedia editor groups based on the last 10 years, specifically to edit the website’s pages on the conflict between Israel and Palestine by minimizing Palestinian antisemitism while promoting criticism of Israel. The report also claims these edits have increased following the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack carried out by Hamas against Israel, which has included removing coverage of Palestinian violence and terrorism.

“The values of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation reflect our commitment to integrity and accuracy, and we categorically condemn antisemitism and all forms of hate,” a spokesperson for Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that runs Wikipedia, told the Washington Examiner.
Wikimedia Foundation added it is undergoing a “more thorough and detailed analysis” of the ADL’s report, claiming its initial review found conclusions that are “not supported” by the report’s data. The organization also lamented that ADL did not contact the foundation prior to releasing its report.
ADL’s report also cites bias on Wikipedia’s page on Hamas in the Arabic language, which portrays the terrorist group positively, running in contrast to Wikipedia’s policies on neutrality.

“Most readers assume Wikipedia is a reliable online encyclopedia, but in reality, it has become a biased platform manipulated by agenda-driven editors on many topics,” ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said. “Recent Wikipedia efforts toward neutrality are nothing but a Band-Aid on a problem that’s getting worse, with persistent antisemitic and anti-Israel bias still far too present. We urge Wikipedia and policymakers to act quickly before rampant disinformation on one of the most visited sources of information leads to tragic consequences.”
Last year, Wikipedia drew ire when it replaced its entry on Zionism with a “wildly inaccurate” description that characterized Zionists as “coloniz[ers].” The edit was spotlighted by the ADL, urging people to call on Wikipedia to correct the “wildly inaccurate” and “dangerous” misinformation.
