NextImg:Adidas shows how ignorance boosts antisemites - Washington Examiner

Ignorance and antisemitism typically go hand in hand, even when it comes to massive corporations that should know better.

With the 2024 Olympics approaching, German sportswear company Adidas used the opportunity to promote its SL72 shoe, which was first released for the 1972 Olympics in Munich. To do so, the company enlisted model Bella Hadid for the promotional campaign.

There are two obvious problems with this, which anyone at Adidas with access to Google could have quickly identified to spare the company the bad publicity. For one, Hadid and her father are antisemites who blamed Israel for getting attacked by Hamas terrorists. Secondly, the 1972 Munich Olympics that Adidas is harkening back to are most remembered for the massacre of Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists.

Next, you’re going to say that Adidas was founded by two brothers who were members of the Nazi Party and that it already dealt with an antisemitism scandal with a high-profile celebrity in 2022 without learning its lesson. Oh wait, both of those things are true.

The decision is made all the more galling with the terrorist threat looming over the Olympics now. Iran, the “foremost state sponsor of terrorism” and a country that supports Hamas, is even whining that France is providing protection for Israeli athletes. No doubt the Iranian government would rather the Olympics be a soft target, a reason that the country and its terrorist-supporting government should be banned from the Games.

This should have been a simple blunder for Adidas to avoid, yet the societal acceptance of antisemites such as the Hadid family, along with the acceptance of pro-terrorist talking points disguised as “pro-Palestinian” activism, blinded everyone at the company to the obvious mistake. The ignorance and lack of concern over bigotry when that bigotry is antisemitism is how antisemites get a foothold in society in the first place, especially when it comes from corporations with the reach of Adidas.
