


Las Vegas police have contained a suspect in an active shooting at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
On Wednesday, police said in a post to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that officers have the suspect contained and there is an active investigation.

City police said earlier that they were responding to "preliminary reports" of an active shooter on the university campus near Beam Hall. There appears to be "multiple victims," police said. No updates on the status of the victims was provided at the time.
A campus alert said university police are responding to a "confirmed active shooter" in Beam Hall at 11:54 a.m. PT. At 12:26 p.m., the university said police were responding to additional reports that shots were fired in the student union, which is near Beam Hall.
People were asked to avoid the area, as there is ongoing police activity from Maryland Parkway at University Ave to Tropicana Ave.

A KSNV News 3 Las Vegas reporter said on X that he was locked down at the university campus.

Beam Hall houses the university’s Lee Business School and includes food service kitchens and laboratories, computer labs, and classrooms, according to the website.
The student union is located one building over from Beam Hall.
