Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) fired back at Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other liberal mayors over their complaints about the influx of immigrants in their sanctuary cities, seeing it as hypocritical and saying they "could not last a week in Texas."
The Republican governor's comments came in the wake of Adams calling him a "madman" for sending illegal immigrants by bus to sanctuary cities, including New York City and Chicago. Adams has decried the immigration crisis in the Big Apple, saying it will "destroy" his city and condemning President Joe Biden for not providing more support.

"It’s just outrageous that he would make a comment like that," Abbott said on Jesse Watters Primetime about Adams's insult. "But what’s maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago, in D.C. and LA, they put out policies self-proclaiming their sanctuary cities, and they love to promote these liberal ideologies until they have to live up and apply them. It was clear that the policies letting everyone live for free do not work. This is a day of reckoning for the United States, realizing that the policies of open borders will not work."
Abbott continued his victory lap by recalling over the past decade Democratic lawmakers within his own state, such as former state Sen. Wendy Davis and notable liberal politician brothers Julian and Joaquin Castro, who claimed they could turn Texas blue. "Hispanics do not like Biden’s open border policies. Texas will continue to get more red because of the reckless liberal progressive policies pushed by people like the Castros and Joe Biden."
The immigration crisis at the southern border has been a major point of contention between Republicans and Democrats, with the Texas governor taking perhaps the most hard-line stance against letting illegal immigrants into his state. Not only has he bussed tens of thousands of immigrants to blue cities, but he has even sent them to the doorstep of high-profile Democrats, such as Vice President Kamala Harris.

Abbott's actions offer him a win-win, as he showcases his efforts to keep Texas free of illegal immigrants while at the same time putting immense pressure on so-called sanctuary cities run by Democrats who cannot possibly manage the influx of so many new faces within such a short amount of time.
The Republican governor has implemented several strategies to prevent immigrants from arriving along the southern border, including placing floating buoy barriers in the Rio Grande — a measure that an appeals court allowed to continue last week — as well as putting coils of razor wire along the river.
