New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he defies science and Dr. Anthony Fauci, joking that the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is science itself.
Rodgers made his comment on Tuesday during a talk show in which the hosts were discussing his recovery from a recent injury. The hosts joked that Rodgers "does stuff his own way" and "actually defies science," with Rodgers agreeing with the sentiment.

Rodgers is in recovery after tearing his Achilles tendon last month, which he said he is "ahead of schedule." He cited his rehabilitation in the recovery and "the power of intention" as contributing factors.

Rodgers's swipe at Fauci comes after he offered to do a debate with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce regarding vaccinations. Rodgers also suggested he and Kelce have other people join their hypothetical debate, with Rodgers wanting Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a 2024 presidential candidate and known vaccine critic, and Kelce getting Fauci.
Earlier this month, Rodgers referred to Kelce as "Mr. Pfizer," a callback to a recent COVID-19 vaccine advertisement in which Kelce was featured. Kelce's ad for Pfizer was shared on the Kansas City Chiefs' social media, though comments on the post were turned off.

Kelce was asked what he thought about Rodgers's labeling him "Mr. Pfizer," to which he laughed and said that he looks "like a guy called 'Mr. Pfizer.'"
"Who knew I'd get into the vax wars with Aaron Rodgers, man?" Kelce said. "Mr. Pfizer versus the Johnson & Johnson family there."
