NFL veteran Billy Price announced his retirement on Saturday, citing health risks that could grow should he continue playing football.

Price, 29, revealed on social media that he underwent an emergency pulmonary embolism surgery last month to address a blood clot that he had. He added that having an unprovoked pulmonary embolism as a healthy person in his late 20s was “terrifying.”

“I am truly thankful to be alive today,” Price’s statement read. “Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk.”

Price continued his statement by expressing gratitude for being able to play in “some of the greatest atmospheres around the world” during his career. He also thanked his wife for the support she has given him throughout their time together.

“I cannot wait to navigate the next chapter in life with you as we continue to grow our family,” Price wrote regarding his wife.

Price is perhaps best known for his time playing for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played for three years from 2018 through 2021. After this, he was traded to the New York Giants, and after that played for the Arizona Cardinals.
